A misty day

Sunrise, in Wilpattu National Park.

In 2016, we got the opportunity for a three-day stay at the Manawila Bungalow, right inside the Wilpattu National Park. Being in a bungalow gave us the opportunity to see the nature of the park as you can't see when you enter it at 6.00 am or so from the main entrance.

Wilpattu National Park is generally semi-arid scrubland and dry forest, a place where sunlight shines generously. So it was a pleasant surprise when we woke up to see the shallow lake 'villu' in front of the bungalow wreathed in mist.

The chill of that morning was so unlike the harsh sun of the day before, and we wrapped ourselves up from the stringing wind inside the safari jeep. The mist blanketed the shallow villus, obscuring their banks, and making way for some very mystical images...

The mist is probably blown in by the sea wind, condensing overland. By the time the other visitors get to these places, the mist would probably have cleared up and gone. We felt the chill in the wind long after the mist was gone, and we did not forget the awesome sights we had seen that morning...

same place, previous day

Wonder what else might be hiding under the cover of the early morning fog.

My word Jonny - those are some gorgeous scenes!!! YAM xx

  2. ...Jonny, you don't need a sunny day to make beautiful images!

  3. Wonderfully evocative images and so different from what we expect from your part of the world. Many photographers love the misty weather and you've captured the conditions beautifully. Our season of mists will soon be upon us too.

    1. In my country, it is almost always misty in the hilly areas, but I definitely did not expect such a mist in wilpattu. Misty weather is beautiful to photograph!

  4. You really did well, Jonny. Just seeing that leopard would have made my day - my whole year, in fact!

  6. Oh Jonny, these photographs you took are MAGICAL! Oh how weather can make the same place be on a different world by being sunny or cloudy or as you shared, misty! I love the mysteriousness of the scenes and the feels you gave us :)

  7. Hello

    great photos
    Greetings Frank

  8. The beautiful natural scenery is covered in fog as seen in the photo ... I also like the fog phenomenon because it looks exotic and mysterious.
